Mission
The Desert Farming Initiative (DFI) at UNR runs a certified-organic teaching and research farm focused on sustainable production, water stewardship, and food-safety practices suited to the Great Basin.
Problem they address
Farming in the high desert is hard. The region needs locally proven practices for water efficiency, soil health, and crop selection, and farmers need places to learn them.
How they contribute
Applied research, farmer training, internships, and a steady supply of locally grown produce that connects the university to the community food system.
